The coastal settlement of Perissa, like its neighboring Perivolos, is known for its big beach. The settlement includes many accommodations, while along the sea there are restaurants, bars and cafes. A limestone rock rises in the sea to the left, part of an island that existed before the volcano, with climbing routes etched into it. In Perissa, and in particular on the slope of Mesa Vouno, are the ruins of the Old Christian church of Agia (St.) Irene, to whom Santorini probably owes its name (Santa Irini) as well as the majestic church of the Timio Stavro (Holy Cross), one of the largest churches of the island, with its blue domes standing out from afar. The Museum of Minerals and Fossils is located here.
