Ipapanti temple formerly known as “The Lady of Belonia” (since it was owned by the family of the same name), is the cathedral of the island. The old church, built in 1827, was rebuilt after its destruction by the earthquake on July 9, 1956. Today, at the caldera of Fira you will find the white church with arches, a mosaic in the courtyard and a delightful view of the sea and the volcano. The wonderful frescoes inside the church were painted by the Santorinian painter Christopher Asimis. The church celebrates Ipapanti on February 2nd.
