The small harbor just below Ia is known for its tavernas by the sea, but also for the special feature that it gives those who want to swim. Following the path on your left after passing by the restaurants, you arrive at a point opposite a small island with the church of Agios (St.) Nikolaos. You can swim up to the small island or swim right beneath Ia with the caldera cliff surrounding you. It is one of the most unique landscapes on the island for swimming. The atmosphere is magical. If you choose to swim to the right of Ammoudi, you will reach another interesting point, The Wreck. A large area of the seabed is covered with broken pieces of the ship, and you will see the stern of the wreck that stands out from the bottom. You may reach Ammoudi either on foot, if you walk down the stairs from Ia (approximately 235) with splendid views of the village and the sea, or by the asphalt road leading to Ammoudi harbor.
