Perched on top of the cliff above the castle, with panoramic views across the island, stands the monastery of Zoodohou Pigis or Chrysopigi. It was used as a fort to protect the inhabitants from the pirates. The high wall, heavy wooden doors, secret passageways (exits with ropes to the cliff) and caches didn't always managed to save the island from devastation. Functioned as a convent until 1834 when a decree of King Otto closed it since there were only a few nuns living there. Inside the monastery there is the temple of Zoodohou Pigis (the Life-Giving Spring), with its traditional Cycladic architecture and its bell tower. Around the temple, the monks' cells, the Priory, warehouses, water tanks and a stone oven. In one of the refurbished cells operates a small folklore museum.
