The trademark of Tinos, Virgin Mary Annunciation (Panagia Evangelistria) dominates the top of the hill of Chora. The sight from the harbor, with the uphill road that reaches the stairs is impressive and the sight at night becomes even more impressive with its lighting. A church that gathers pilgrims from around the world, who devote in her grace offerings and jewelry as prayers or thanks for her benefits - miracles. The temple was built on the spot where the miraculous icon was found, at the suggestion from the nun Pelagia. It depicts the Annunciation and is decorated with numerous offerings of the believers. The temple inside impresses even those who have no religious interest. The numerous offerings, the wooden temple and the decoration, create a devout atmosphere. Beneath the church, there is the church of Zoodochos Pigi - Evreseos, with the believers taking holy water from the spring which gushes. Throughout the year and especially the 15th of August thousands of pilgrims are visiting Tinos on the day when the Assumption is celebrated, with a special atmosphere.
At the premises around the temple are housed the museums of Evangelistria such as the Art Gallery, the Exhibition of Religious Relics and Icons, the Sacristy, the Museum Antonio Sochos, the Museum of Tinian artists and the Mausoleum of Elli. Something that will surely grab your attention is the bell tower with 30m height, created by Ioannis Filippotis, with the bells being sound throughout the town and the surrounding villages.
