At Loutra, a small village in the mainland of Tinos, is one of the main attractions of the island. The Ursuline Monastery and School attracts the gaze with the imposing buildings which once flourished. It was founded in 1862, with the Ursulines sisters, running in the premises of the monastery orphanage, boarding school, French High School and University, Greek elementary and high school, school of Carpet manufacturing, sewing, loom etc. Girls of the aristocracy, from different countries, were boarders in Loutra for their studies. In the full operation the School had more than 200 boarder female students and many orphans and children of Tinos. Today you can visit part of the buildings, such as the dormitories, the surgery, the teachers room, the room of arts, traveling guests at that time. You can visit the monastery, during the summer months, in the morning and on request other days and times. In summer, they organize cultural events at the courtyard, creating a special atmosphere.
