It was built in 1861 and today it is situated in the Palia Poli. Its name is unique all over Greece, with the exception of a chapel on Scorpios island. The Akathistos Imnos church has been burned down twice; once in 1912 and once on New Year's Eve of 1991. From the first fire was saved the icon of Agios Eleftherios and from the second the icons of Virgin Mary and those of the Episkopal throne. It is a three-aisled basilica with 12 columns supporting the dome. The unique characteristic of these columns is that at the top of each one, there is the icon of one of the twelve Apostles. Also where the icon of the saint of the church is usually placed, we see the icon of the Virgin Mary Megalomitor.
