It was founded in 1972 as a women’s monastery and it is located in the northeast of the city of Xanthi. The Metropolitan Bishop of Xanthi of the time Adonios is considered the founder, and its owner is the Archimandrite Adonios Dalatsis. Nowadays, the Monastery of Agia Irini is an exemplary convent, which also does social work as under its roof are hosted orphans from Palestine and other places.
