The construction of the museum started in 1976, although the signature for its foundation was put in 1984. Since then 16 years passed until 20th January 2000, when the museum finally opened. From that day the Archaeological Museum of Avdira contributes to the spiritual development of the area and its visitors. The museum houses exhibits from the excavations in the town and the cemeteries of ancient Avdira, which started in 1950. For a better understanding of the exhibits they have been divided in three sections: public life, private life and burial customs. Thus visitors can easily see the development of the town as well as the people’s lives. Opening hours: 8:30-15:00, after request.
