The church was built in the place where a shepherd had found the icon of Agia Mavra and later a bell tower of 37 meters in height was constructed in the courtyard in 1802.
The church survived the earthquake of 1953 but in 2005 the interior of the church was ruined completely by a fire. The fire destroyed the once famous decoration and only the icon of Agia Mavra managed to survive.
There have been made significant efforts to restore the church but important works of religious and artistic value as the wooden iconostasis, icons with renaissance technique have been lost forever.
The Church honors Agia Mavra on 3rd of May, when a vigil takes place, and the traditional festival during the first days of July with the participation of neighboring villages is similar to that of Agios Dionysios.
