With its distinguishing tower protruding between the stone buildings surrounding the peaceful courtyard, the Monastery of Anafonitria welcomes the pilgrims in the area of Plemonariou, to the north of Zakynthos.
The monastery was probably founded during the 15th century and was given to the Archbishop Dionysios Sure in 1568, who later became a saint and the patron of the island. Here the holy ascetic met the killer of his brother, whom he forgave and smuggled. Last but not least, this is a place of worship due to its connection with the "Saint of Forgiveness," Dionysios.
