Dionysus & Ariadne: According to legend, if not for Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos of Crete, Theseus would never have found his way out of the Labyrinth after killing the Minotaur. Theseus invited Ariadne to follow him. While sailing to Athens, they stopped at Donoussa. There, the God Dionysus fell in love with Ariadne and asked for the help of the Goddess Athena in order to keep her for his own. Theseus, obedient to Athena’s orders, had to leave his love behind. Thus Ariadne became the wife of Dionysus.
