Cave of Maaras is about 25 kilometers northwest of Drama. It is a 21 kilometers long natural masterpiece, believed to be the largest river cave in the world. River Angitis is crossing the cave, which is decorated with beautiful stalactites and crystal formations that reach the surface of the water. The liquid element is dominant in the internal spaces of the cave, while the rich colors are the result of various minerals that exist in area. In the wider space of the cave there have been found signs of life since 30,000 years ago, such as bones of deer, rhinos and even a tush of a mammoth (exhibited in the museum of Drama), as well as traces of Neolithic inhabitants. Nowadays, the visitor can walk about 500 meters inside the cave.
Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 10:30-17:00, Sunday and holidays 10:00-17:30,
