Festival of cherry: The festival of cherry is held each year on the first Saturday of June in Metochi, a village of northeastern Evia. The festival lasts all night long, with traditional and other dances and music for any taste. Everything is directly connected with cherry. You can taste cherry products and delicacies based on cherry, watch photography and art exhibitions with cherry as the main subject. A really sweet and fruity festival that you shouldn’t miss!
May Day: Each first day of May the «Festival of Pepper» is celebrated in southeastern Evia. The roots of this custom go back to the ancient years, when residents asked Zeus to bring rain, so that their crops would make fruit. Nowadays they dress a young girl that they call “Piperia” (“Pepper Girl”), with spring flowers and take her to nearby villages, along with other girls. In other villages they dress a young boy that they call “Piperos” (“Pepper Boy”), the husband of “Piperia”. The escorts of Piperia and Piperos sing a hymn to the couple and Prophet Elias, in order to bring rain in their place.
15th of August: For Evia, like for any other place in Greece, 15th of August is the biggest celebration of the summer. In any city, village or beach you may be, you’ll be found in the middle of festivals and celebrations! One of the most beautiful fests is held in Lichada, northern Evia.
