The petrified forest of Kerasia, one of the few European petrified forests, is located in northern Evia, among the three areas Kerasia, Agia Anna and Pappades. This magic, 20.000.000 years old place is extended to the west of the village Kerasia, in Psili Rachi and its paths will take you on a journey through prehistoric times. You should bear in mind that there have been found fossils of mammals, trunks and the protected “quercus euboica” (Evian oak tree), which is endangered. All these fossils are unique and have attracted the interest of many scientists. If you wish to know more, you could visit the paleolithical findings museum, founded in 2006 in the central square of the village. There you’ll see fossils of rhinoceros, giraffes and hyenas. Some possible questions you may have about the species living in the area million years ago will be answered by the photographic material of the excavations and relative texts.
