Festival of Klidona 23-24 June: Known throughout the island, the festival of Klidonas takes place at various villages of Heraklion such as Agia Varvara, Asites, Agios Miron, Arolithos and more. This is a very old custom, where through a "divining" procedure unmarried youths’ future spouses are revealed to them.

Cherry Festival: It takes place in the village of Panasos and includes traditional Cretan festivities and fresh cherries, both offered at the courtyard of the former primary school of the village.

Tsikoudia Festival: This three-day event is held in the village of Agia Varvara in late June. It is the celebration of Tsikoudia (a famous traditional Cretan drink) and includes traditional Cretan festivities, local cuisine, and plenty of locally distilled Tsikoudia.

Wine Festival: A tradition that dates back to 1976 is the wine festival, held at Dafnes village within walking distance from the city of Heraklion. It is a ten-day event where Cretan artists entertain visitors, and plenty of food and wine is offered by the cultural association of the village.

Rafkeia: In the village of Agios Miron near Heraklion the Rafkeia  festival takes place. Starting in late July (late July through 8 August), with various events such as theatrical performances, lectures, and sports. Events culminate on 7 and 8 August, the day before and the day of the feast of Saint Miron, patron saint of the village.

14-15 August: Feast of the Assumption (or Dormition) of the Theotokos (Mother Mary). One of the most important events in the Orthodox Christian calendar, various villages throughout the prefecture commemorate the holiday  with festivities during the day and evening, mostly organized by the cultural associations.

August: At the city of Heraklion during the whole of August, a series of cultural events take place in the Garden Theatres "N. Kazantzakis "and" M. Hatzidakis”. Theater and dance performances, concerts, film screenings and a variety of artistic events.

Archanes Festival: Held in August at the Feast of the Arhaniotis, inviting the guests to  participate in the harvest of grapes and other agricultural activities.
