In the rocky Asterousia, at an altitude of 440 meters, is built the monastery Apezanon, dedicated to Agios (St.) Antonios. According to tradition, the monastery was founded by four monks who were living in Agiofarango, but were forced to leave due to pirate attacks. The chapel has a beautiful wooden temple, featuring two icons which are believed to be the works of Michael Damaskinos and El Greco. In the complex there is the abbey, the monks' cells, the guesthouse, the dining room and the well. The monastery preserves sacred objects and relics of saints.
