One of the largest aquariums in the Mediterranean, with a rich collection of sea creatures, presents the best of the Mediterranean’s sea world. The aquarium opened in 2005 and is located a few kilometers outside Heraklion, in “Gournes” where the former American Base was located. Passing through dimly lit corridors surrounded by large tanks, the visitor discovers nearly 200 species that live in the rich depths of the Cretan and the Mediterranean Seas. With the use of modern means visitors can access a wealth of information, watch documentaries and later can enjoy drinks in the coffee shop. Visiting hours: 9:30-21:00 during Summer, 9:30-17:30 during Winter: Daily, except holidays.
