This folklore museum is located in the village of Arolithos, 11 km from Heraklion. It is a museum of agricultural history and folklore art. The items have been collected and presented in an outstanding exhibition of the traditions and folklore of Crete. The museum is divided into four sections. In the folk arts hall, the visitor can admired works of Cretan handicrafts such as traditional clothing, weaving, wood carving and more. In the next hall, a representation of traditional Cretan home is displayed. Next is the exhibit of trades, where the visitor gets to learn about agricultural occupations through the tools that farmers used to use in years past. Last but not least are the external parts of the shepherd’s house called “Mitato”, the sheepfold, the threshing floor and more.
