Just beyond Malia is a forest of a rare species of holm-oak. This forest is not well known to the public, although it is easily accessible by hiking from the village Krasi towards Malia, or a short drive along a steep dirt road. On the way from Malia to Krasi, by the roadside there is another holm-oak forest, also well-suited for hiking.
