Amaliada is a provincial city with newly built buildings and old manors, only 20km from Pyrgos. During the Byzantine times, it was occupied by the Franks and the Monastery Frankavilla provides tangible proof about this fact. During the Minor Asia Catastrophe, when refugees came to Amaliada, the city gained a new status. Moreover, the warehouses of raisins and the neo-classic architecture welcome the visitor in a travel through time. The street plan of the city is considered to be good and can be easily accessed. Apart from being agriculturally developed, it is also characterized as the cultural capital of the Prefecture and holds a prominent position in the cultural life of the area due to its variety of activities: art festivals, the annual book fair, a well-organized library as well as the revival of local customs during the Carnival etc. Ancient Ilida is an inextricable part of Amaliada and you should definitely visit its Folkloric Museum.
