It is the biggest village in the northern part of Ithaki. Stavros is built on a location that has nearly the same distance from the three seas that were described by Homer in his works. The whole region is steeped in history as there are lots of findings that prove that this was the island Ithaki that played a major role in Homer’s poems. Moreover, there is a mockup in the village’s square that shows us how the actual palace of Odysseus looked like.
Stavros with its tidy yards, old stone houses and stores, which create a retro atmosphere, usually livens up after Easter as in winter the village has only 350 residents.
If you do not choose Stavros for your accommodation, you will come here either for dinner or to supply yourselves from the local stores.
