The town of Almiros is approximately 40 km from Volos and is the second largest in Magnesia. It is an important agricultural – livestock centre, which in the recent years has strongly developed in the tourism sector. The Archaeological Museum, Municipal Art Gallery, Folklore Museum of Almiros and of course the Kouri forest (which is the second largest oak trees forest in Europe), are just a few of the sights available to visitors.
The areas of Pteleos and Sourpi attract many visitors, having developed into important tourist resorts due to their crystal clear waters. Near Almiros is the modern airport of Nea Aghialos (the area in which in its entirety can be characterised as an archaeological site since ancient findings are brought to light in every corner), there are flights to many European destinations with low budget airline companies.
