The Kontos house in Anakasia, where the Theofilos Museum is located, is considered as one of the most significant monuments of the recent history within the area. This is so because it is the only preserved mansion in Pelion where a complete painting plan is preserved. The painter, Theofilos Hatzimichael, started the painting decoration of the house in 1912. The decoration consists of two parts: At the bottom zone visitors can see paintings of various decorative subjects and at the upper zone there are 14 big paintings of themes taken from the Greek Revolution. It’s a significant museum – in the honor of the now recognized folk artist who lived for about 30 years in the area. Visiting hours: Daily 8:00-15.00 except Monday. Free entry.
