The findings of the ancient city of Phylakopi, which is one of the most important settlements of the Cycladic civilization and the most important city of the prehistoric Aegean, are located on the way to Pollonia. It was inhabited continuously from the late third millennium BC to the Mycenaean period (14th century BC), when a grand imperial building that looks like the palaces of the mainland was built. The building has many rooms, corridors and a central hearth.
Phylakopi became a major commercial and cultural center thanks to the trade of precious stones of obsidian. It developed rapidly, gained strength and erected cyclopean walls to prevent invaders. Nevertheless, it was destroyed and rebuilt three times. Today most of the city lies below sea level, but that which has remained of the impressive cyclopean wall of the settlement is worth visiting. You can see findings of the village in the Archaeological Museum of Milos.
Visiting hours: 8:30-15:00, daily except Mondays. Admission: Free
