It is the highest mountain of Greece, with its peak, Mitikas, reaching up to 2917 meters between the prefectures of Pieria and Larisa. However, reason for its worldwide fame is the fact that the Gods of the Greek Mythology used to live there. The huge mountain inspired awe to the people of the ancient times, who thought that only Gods could live up there. Since 1913, when his summit was first reached, thousands of people hike on the mountain especially during the spring and summer that the weather condition are mild and the summit can be reached even by less experienced hikers.
