Vari, the largest village of the island, is located at the southeast end of the island at approximately 40m in altitude and just 9km from the capital. A distinctive village, which is a tourist and rural place at the same time, since most of its 1500 inhabitants work on the cultivation of the land. The visitors of the island prefer it for its adherence to tradition and its Cycladic wave-free beaches. Vari is the ideal place for peaceful family vacations, with various cafes, taverns, bars, hotels and traditional fish taverns serving delicious fresh fish. If you go a little further down, you will find yourself in the neighboring Vounaki. Here, you will admire the Catholic church of Amiantou Sillipseos of the Theotokos with a spectacular view to Vari. Some of the features of the strongly developed rural life are the cottages, the famous windlass wells, the cisterns, the plain with the reeds and the traditional as well as modernized cultivations. In the village there are many buses and taxis that you can use for your transportation.
