To the south of the island lies Posidonia that is along with Finikas  the most ancient settlements in Syros. It was named after the God of the sea Neptune (Posidonas) because the region was a place of worship of Neptune. Nowadays, it is named Delagratsia after the Italian Madonna Della Gratsia, manifesting once more the influence of the Venetians on the island and its culture. Located 12km from Ermoupoli, Delagratsia is one of the prettiest coastal places of the island and it is no coincidence that it has been and still is the favorite resort of the wealthy inhabitants and the first Greek bourgeoisie. Therefore, you will notice many neoclassical, new and old, mansions of fine architecture with grand gardens and numerous pine and palm trees. These mansions are still in the pink of perfection maintaining the nobility of old times. Delagratsia has also developed its tourist side, with many hotels and restaurants promising the best possible accommodation and nutrition for their customers. You will enjoy a spectacular sunset as the sun falls behind the uninhabited islets Stroggilo and Schinonisi that stand lofty opposite the stunning beach of Agkathopes. If you have spare time, it would be interesting to visit the local Club of the aristocrats, where probably is located the oldest tennis court in Greece, and the church of Agios Ioannis, where a big feast takes place every year, on the 29^th of August.
