This is the main square of Ermoupoli, the very heart of the island. Here the locals and the tourists will spend their hour discussing and having fun. This is the place where you will be every night since its lighting and bars create a magical atmosphere. Moreover, it is one of the rarest squares in Greece, made in the 19th century and influenced by the beau ideal of Italian squares. At first, it was called Othonos Square to honor the King, but, after his fall, it was renamed Leotsakos Square to honor the commander of the military guard, Nikos Leotsakos. On the square, you will see the statue of Andreas Miaoulis, whose name was given to the square in 1889. The palm trees surrounding the square add an exotic tone, which combined with the surrounding buildings create a charming atmosphere.
