At the beginning of one of the most well-known pedestrian precincts of Thessaloniki, that of Ictinus, you will find an abandoned monastery, just 5m below the street level. The entrance to the monastery will lead you to the underground Thessaloniki and in the catacombs of Agios Ioannis, where the first believers could express their beliefs without fear.
