The Archaeological Museum has been hosted in a building built in 1962 by the Greek architect Patroklos Karantinos for the last 50 years. The museum’s exhibitions, dated between the 6th century BC and the 4th century AD, depict the history of the city and Northern Greece. Its collections are divided into three categories: a) Pottery, Murals & Paintings: Exhibits from diggings in Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia are found here which allow to the visitor to become acquainted with the daily habits of the ancients Greeks regarding the household’s gear, entertainment, beautification, worship, superstition, after-death beliefs and burying rituals. b) Sculptures & Miniature Art: Here, one can admire the sculptures and architectural parts which were mostly associated with the ancient Greek worship. C) Metalworking: This is one of the greatest collections in Macedonia and includes objects of silver and brass, dated from the prehistoric to the post roman period.
The museum is located in the heart of the city, so you can combine your visit with a tour in the city and a walk in one of the most characteristic and cool spots in Thessaloniki, the beach.
Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday 09:00-16:00
