The Castles intercommunicated with Vigles. Vigles are cylindrical medieval stone buildings, which are scattered on seashores, capes and hills near the sea. Their main purpose was the observation and supervision of the sea for possible hostile raids. The defensive fortification enabled the inhabitants to get ready and alert the rest of the Vigles and the castles. Some have been preserved, while others are derelict. Several Vigles are located in Emporios, Elinda, Trahili, Lithi etc.
