Since it held its first trip in 1896, millions of eyes were and are until today enchanted by the majestic beauty of the ride. The clog railway begins from the seaside village of Diakopto, climbing through the canyon of Vouraikos and ending at Kalavrita at an altitude of 750m. Special characteristics of the railway are the rack rails which boost the train at the difficult upward paths. The cog railway stops at several settlements during its ride that lasts about an hour. Passing through overhead bridges, the passages at times widen and at others get narrower. The narrowest point, the ‘Doors’, is a point which feels like the Simpligads opening for the train to cross in hustling. The view from the train’s windows is impressive, with landscapes alternating from wild beauty to smooth plains, unique rock formations and unrestrained waters. The only down point is the slightly increased ticket price, although the beauty of the ride will get you swept by to a point where you will probably forget about the cost.
