The subject of the Municipal Museum of the Kalavrytan Holocaust is the Holocaust in the city of Kalavryta, a sequence of historical events that took place at Kalavryta Province during the latest phase of World War II.
The Kalavritan Holocaust is characterized by the mass execution of the male population of the city by the German occupation troops in 13/12/1943, the concurrent hostage of women and children in the Kalavrita's Primary School, the looting and burning of the city's houses. However, the Kalavritan Holocaust is defined not only by this but also by other mass executions and devastationς, which took place- in the same or similar ways- in villages at Kalavrita Province during the same period of time.
All these historical events, which as a whole constitute the Kalavritan Holocaust, are the subject of the Municipal Museum of the Kalavrytan Holocaust. The goal of the Municipal Museum of the Kalavrytan Holocaust is to fully and detailed present these historical events through the display of its collections. The museum is housed in the former historical building of Kalavrita's Primary School, which is characterized as historical preserved monument.
