Access

By car: It is the largest prefecture of Greece with a relatively good road system and is about 4 hours away from Athens. To get there you have to go towards Patra and cross the bridge of Rio-Antirrio. Of course the distance from Thessaloniki is much longer as you need 405 kilometers to get there. Patra is 80 kilometers away, Arta 85 kilometers and Preveza 100 kilometers.

By bus: The buses of Aetoloakarnania with their often timetable can accommodate your needs for transportation to Athens, Patra and other big cities of the country. In addition, there are routes inside the prefecture.

By boat: The prefecture has a small harbor in Astakos that is connected with the ionian islands of Ithaki and Kefallinia. The timetable is quite often, especially during the summer months, towards Kefallinia and Ithaki and the distances are short.

Marinas: If you travel by your own boat, there are quite a lot safe harbors where you can tie your boat up and get supplies, like those in Astakos, Mytikas, Palairos and Vonitsa. Moreover, during the past few years, there is a modern marina operating in Messolonghi where you can also repair your boat.
