Arcadia is Pan’s and nymphs’ Lair, the heart of Peloponnese, with such an intense and tame less nature that the mind is easily carried away by the image of the cloven-hoofed god playing his flute beside spring water. Inspired by this Arcadian beauty, the painter Poussin depicted in his painting, "Et in Arcadia ego", the image of a bucolic landscape. No matter how educational a trip in Arcadia can be, the nature is the one that will awaken the traveler’s senses as he will be wandering around the massifs. One can easily understand why this place expresses the cinquecento Arcadian ideal, the heavenly land that was praised by Boccaccio and Dante, the humanism, the tranquility, the justice.
The oldest archaeological findings of the area are dated from the second half of the 2nd millennium BC. The historical course of Arcadia continues in the Homeric Age (1000 BC), the Classical Greece (4th-5th centuries BC), the Roman and, then, the Byzantine Ages, and, of course, in Ottoman Empire. Apart from the recent history/ Turkish domination, during these eras different regions in Arcadia were flourishing, leaving a rare legacy to future generations.
The capital of Arcadia, Tripolis, is located 157 kilometers south of Athens, in the center of Peloponnese easily accessible through the national highway Corinth-Tripoli. Arcadia is indicated both for winter and summer tourism, and the area's infrastructure can satisfy all tastes.
