A church following the traditional Cycladic architectural style, featuring a blue dome and a characteristic bell tower, is considered protector of the island. It is located in the village of Stavros, which was named after it. The church, built in 1800, was destroyed and rebuilt in 1902. Every year on September 14th, there is a celebration of the day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross including, apart from the religious ceremonies, a festival held the evening before. The event is visited by many pilgrims arriving from the surrounding islands. If you happen to be on the island on this day, don’t miss the attraction. You will have the opportunity to mix with the locals, taste the traditional patatato (braised meat with potatoes) and dance to the tunes of the fiddle .
