The Frankish Didima (“Twin”) Castles of Myticas are located just outside Chalkida. They are oblong castles, not in good condition. It’s estimated that they were built around 1200 A.D., like most of the castles in Greece. These towers offered protection from invaders, but were also the observing point where people could observe on the waters of Lilantas River, in order to keep Chalkida and the plain watered and avoid floods. These are two historic castles in a beautiful landscape.
