Agia Paraskevi is located in Chalkida. It belongs to the category of the temples built over ancient temples, dedicated to one of the gods of Dodecatheon. This specific temple was built in the 5th century over the temple of goddess Artemis. The order was given by the Emperor Justinian, who made every effort in order to make the tradition of Dodecatheon and the monuments related to it disappear. This historic temple underwent changes, when the Franks decorated it with lions, leaving their mark. Later, the Venetians added gothic elements. During the Turkish occupation, the Turks used the temple as a shelter and depot. In about 1830, just after the liberation of Greece, the temple was renovated and dedicated to Agia Paraskevi. Agia Paraskevi’s feast day is on the 26th of July, and every year big fests are held in Chalkida.
