The monastery was built in about the 13th - 17th century in the foothills of mountain Valantio, near the Baths of Aidipsos, northwest Evia. The foundations of the temple are the ancient temple and the oracle of god Apollo (or otherwise god Sun). Many invaders desired its riches and destroyed parts of it. Mainly during the German occupation of Greece it operated as a shelter. The temple combines ancient Greek and Christian influences.
