The aim of the Historical Museum is to introduce us to the history of Crete from early Christian times to the modern era. The material of the museum's historical, archaeological and ethnographic collections has been continually enriched. The permanent exhibitions of the Museum are the Andreas Kalokairinou room, the Ceramics collection, a numismatic collection, a Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Collection followed by a display of the Contemporary History of Crete, from the period of Ottoman domination-Union of Crete with Greece-the interwar period- World War II, and the Emmanuel Tsouderos room, the Nikos Kazantzakis room and an Ethnographic Collection. Within the museum space is a library, housing many rare volumes. Visiting hours: Summer: Monday-Saturday 9:00-17:00, Winter: Monday-Saturday 9:00-15:30, Sundays & Holidays closed.
