The temple was built in 1811, in accordance with the proclamation of the Turkish commander, to be erected in at most 40 days. Built at great effort by the villagers, the Byzantine-style temple was completed in 39 days. It has 17 domes, one for each of the Apostles, four for the great Evangelists, and the central dome of the Pantokrator (Almighty). The roof rests on 36 pillars of the Byzantine order, and the entire temple was constructed from the wood of a single cypress. In this temple are carvings depicting scenes from the Old Testament, as well as the scene of the felling of the cypress.
