In terms of natural beauty of the environment, one of the richest places in the prefecture of Korinthia is the lagoon of Vouliagmeni, known since antiquity as Eschatiotis. Following the road from Loutraki a distance of 16 km, you will encounter the calm, crystal waters of the lagoon, admire the pine forests that reach down to the banks and the backdrop of the Gerania mountains that rise to its side. The water is salty, as the lagoon is connected with the Corinthian Gulf via a small channel through which the water is renewed. This channel is also the only entrance to the fishing boats of the area. The importance of the area has been understood since antiquity, as there are signs of habitation dating back to 3,000 BC, the time when the first settlements in Greece began to appear. Many visit the Lagoon of Vouliagmeni to enjoy the waters, engage in water sports, and watch the diving contests, but also to visit the tavernas of the area, that has seen great tourist development. Within walking distance is Cape Heraion with its lighthouse and its famous sunset, and the archaeological site of Heraion Perachora.
