Two ancient theaters of vital cultural and archaeological importance have been discovered and exhibited in the city of Larisa.
The 1st ancient theatre, which was built next to the hill of the Fortress, could accommodate more than 10000 people while it was constructed in the first half of the 3rd century B.C and operated for about six centuries. A big part of the theatre collapsed due to a large earthquake in the 7th century A.C. It had, however, stopped operating three centuries ago due to obscure reasons.
Nowadays, the ancient theatre of Larisa has been fully exhibited and there is also a plan for its restoration.
The 2nd ancient theatre of Larisa dates back to the roman era (1st century B.C). Two marble rows of seats, the orchestra and a big part of the stage have remained. Nowadays, the archaeological site is bounded and can only be visited after taking permission by the 15th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities.
