This is a two-story building built during the Byzantine period on top of a hill overlooking Sitia. It is the only remaining structure from the fortification of Sitia. It functioned as a barrack and was restored during the Ottoman Empire. Today, it is used for cultural events, like the Kornania.

It was built by the Venetians to protect the city of Ierapetra, and is still standing at the entrance of the old city port. Although, it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1508, it was restored and used during the Ottoman Empire. Today, it hosts cultural events, organized by the municipality.
