The church of St. Nikolaos, the patron of all sailors, could not miss from the island of Psara. This glorious church that Kanaris visited before his heroic ventures, is very big (28m length, 14m width, 24m height) is located in the west part of the settlement. It was erected in 1785 and it was completed in the birth year if captain Kanaris, 1793. Its marbles were transferred by the people of Psara and come from neighboring islands and faraway cities (Malta, Marseille). The rock of Thymiana in the symmetrical cuboid building is characteristic.
Visitors can focus on the architecture of the church, which is a combination of Greek architecture based on columns and of oriental domed basilica that lead to a gold wreath long before the limits of the capital. In 1824 it was destroyed and icons, chandeliers and candles were pillaged. However in 1864, when people of Psara returned, it was renovated. From 67 windows and 8 doors today only 51 windows and 7 doors exist. The Gospel is also rescued.
