It is characterized as a place with fairies since it has excess of beauty and has been linked with many stories from mythology. At the top of Mount Parnassos stranded after the flood the ark of Deucalion, son of Prometheus, and Pyrrha, from whom came the ancestor of the Ellines (Greeks), Ellinas. On the southwestern side lies the famous oracle of antiquity, Delphi, creation of Apollo and the Corikion Cave, home of the god Pan.
Its higher peak is Liakoura in 2459. Parnassus attracts many visitors all year long, since it is like this unique part of Greece is different every season of the year. Most of the mountain is covered by huge trees, firs mostly on higher altitudes, which interweaved beautiful saddles and canyons. Peonies, crocuses, mountain orchids and liliums are just some of the plants you will encounter while you will be impressed by multitude of different butterflies. The area is also famous for its herbs, especially the so called mountain tee.
Parnassus has been established as a popular winter destination, due to its short distance from Athens, Lamia and Patra and its proper morphology and of course the ski center which is the largest of Greece. It is not just a winter destination, though.
The slopes of the beautiful mountains apart from lush flora embellish many picturesque mountain villages which recently have become known winter destinations. Besides the popular Arachova and Delphi also distinguish the picturesque Agoriani, Tithorea, Amphicleia (the largest village in the area), Polydrosso and Lilea. Visitors of Parnassus are revitalized whether they choose hiking trails that cross the mountain or extreme activities such as mountain biking, air sports, and of course skiing. Two of the most important sights of the area are the National Forest of Parnassus, shared by the three neighboring prefectures, and the three largest caves of Phocis Prefecture, Polydrosos, Eptalophos and Vargiani. Parnassus is a magical mountain that attracts visitors for the simple reason that it has countless beauties.
