In Agio Gala, the church of Panagia Agiogalousena is dated from the 13th century. It is of crossed-dome style, while the arches of the temple were added later. The delicate carven chancel screen is an impressive piece of the interior decoration. It was named after the white lacteal liquid that drips in the homonym cave. According to tradition, the church was built under the command of a king, whose leper daughter was cured by this liquid. Nearby, you will see the church of Agios Thalleleos of Post-Byzantine architecture, which has the oldest carven chancel screen in Chios (1711).
