It is bigger than a village, smaller that a town but as historic as the rest of the towns of the prefecture. Aetoliko is literally built in the sea, something that you will recognize once you start crossing the narrow road-bridge of the lake to get to its center.
It is located in the middle of a rare ecosystem that is surrounded by wetlands where over 250 bird species, most of which are endangered, find shelter and of course food. Herons, mallards, pelicans, coots and other seabirds find food in its calm waters, while on the hills around there are plenty of partidges, hoopoes and common quails.
In Aetoliko you will have the chance to visit the Vaso Katraki’s museum of printmaking and enjoy seafood in the nearby restaurants.
Every year and specifically on the 21^st, 22^nd, and 23^rd of August the festival of Agia Agathi takes place. It is a national-religious festival inspired by the events of the Revolution of 1821. This Fest has an especially traditional character, with the participants wearing fustanellas and dancing under zurna and dauli sounds.
 In Aetoliko you will have the chance to visit the Vaso Katraki’s museum of sculpture and enjoy seafood at the fish taverns of the area. Every year, on 21, 22 and 23 of August, there is the “The Holy Feast of St. Agathi”, a national and religious celebration inspired by the events of the Revolution of 1821. This Fest has an especially traditional character, with the participants wearing “fustanellas” and dancing under “zurna and dauli” sounds.
