Built on a beautiful plateau near the foothills of mount Panetoliko, 360 meters above Lake Trichonida, Thermo was a very important town during the ancient times. It was the center of the “Gathering of the residents of Aetolia” that was one of the first known democracies in the world. Just outside the village you will see the unexpectedly large archaeological site with the market tunnels, the temples of Thermios Apollo and Lafria Artemis dating back to the 7^th century and many more buildings as well.
Nowadays, Thermo is a town of 2500 residents and is the trading center of the area. Once you arrive you will see the picturesque square with the old buildings around it. Springs, canyons, caves and forests grace the nearby area forming a beautiful scenery that serves as an introduction to Nafpaktia and Evritania.
